Umami Mart sprouted into this world as an international food + drink blog in 2007. Over the years, it has grown into a Japanese kitchen and barware importing business, headquartered in Oakland, CA. Functional design, quality and service are all a part of the Umami Mart philosophy, reflected in every facet of the business. The Oakland shop, opened in 2012, is a curation of bar tools and glassware from Japan, as well as a bottle shop dedicated to sake and Japanese beer. Why We Chose Red Bay Coffee We chose to partner with Red Bay Coffee because we instantly connected to Keba Konte and Kori's energy. They also have some great coffees, of course! One of our best sellers at Umami Mart is the East Fourteenth Dark Roast. As a small business in Oakland, we are thrilled to carry beans from a local roaster. Signature Drink or Food Item We love sake here at Umami Mart and have a monthly sake club called Sake Gumi that we launched in August 2015. Members get two bottles of sake a month with notes. We currently have over 140 members with most members picking up at the store and the rest shipped to as far as New York! We also have a great selection of sakes on our shelves at the shop, complete with pairing and serving temperature suggestions. Or just walk into our shop and ask us for a recommendation!
